Non-governmental flying schools are private extensions of their respective Civil Aviation Authorities (FAA/EASA/UKCAA), enabling them to train pilots for the acquisition of PPL, CPL, Multi-Engine, IFR, ATPL Frozen, and other qualifications. These schools operate as approved private businesses based on the ‘minimum requirements’ set by their Civil Aviation Authority to train pilots for their exams.

While these flying schools offer price packages that legally allow you to sit for the exams, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are fully prepared for them. For instance, if you pay $30,000 for your PPL (which takes about 3 months for dedicated individuals and 6 months or more for those with other commitments), it does not guarantee readiness for the exams. Often, students may exceed this price by about $4,000 due to additional training.

The quoted schooling price does not include your cost of living, which can range from $900 to $1,900 per month. It also does not cover the fees for your medical exams, insurance, and any unforeseen expenses. Each month you spend at your flight school is considered an additional expense.

While there can sometimes be abuses from some flying schools, they cannot be entirely blamed as it is part of their business operations. (For the European prices, you can multiply the US prices by 1.6 to have the equivalent prices in EUROS)
